How is the GT's tone similar/different compared to the Ghia?

They are nothing alike in my book. Aside from the GT being MUCH louder, I think the Ghia is more of an old school bluesy/classic rock type tone when overdriven. The GT on the other hand is massive overdrive that is very punchy and comes out of the gate swinging. It's breaking up pretty much as soon as the volume kicks in, and by 9:00 with the guitar volume all the way up, it can sing. It doesn't get much louder from there on, just bigger sounding. The thing that amazes me about the GT is that you can run it with this much gain, then back the guitar volume way down and get the shimmery EL84 cleans that I love so much. It just gets crunchier as the guitar volume goes up, and really has a cool Marshall only better type of sound. You should try one if you can. It's a pretty impressive design.

Don't know when but I will get one of these amps. It has my name all over it. First I have to get my Van Halen chops back! ;D

You could get some serious Van Halen tones with this amp cranked up. It's a monster for sure.
