"""it uses an EF -86 pentode set up in a post EQ gain layout. This alignment yields a rich harmonic complexity and an almost active response from the tone stack.""""
What exactly does this mean? I take it that it's different than a Rt66 or Z-28? Which tube does my guitar hit 12ax7 or the Ef-86?

I hope the Doc can jump in & clarify, but from everything I've read, the EF86 is the gain recovery stage from the tone stack, and the more you USE (turn up) the tone controls, the more gain (and tonal charcateristics) you'll get out of the EF86.
I also believe the EF86 is tied to the footswitchable boost circuit somehow...

i think i need a real professional amp guy to show me how to use this rxes jr now. but i may be temporarily confused. i shall go now and turn it on and put the master at about 10 oclock and the volume at about 1 oclock. i shall now tune the guitar and i shall smile. that is how the ef86 works for me. floor it. that is technical talk.

EF86's were found in early Vox designs (and some Marshalls I believe), but most designers gave up on them because of poor build quality. Obviously Doc has found some good ones. It's a great high gain tube with a unique sound.

Does that mean that we are all ultimately doomed?

Does that mean that we are all ultimately doomed? When I got my Stang Ray I immediately ordered a spare NOS EF86. Then I got another 2 NOS EF86 when I got the RxJrS.

Does that mean that we are all ultimately doomed? I'm no tube authority, but I don't think so. Several of the current tube manufactures are making them now days and Z's aren't the only amps that use them. Besides, they last a long time...much longer than your power tubes.
