Not really, but....... I am cautious about being too hyped with this amp........ been known to gush before and then sell in 6 mos., but, am I exaggerating too much if I make the claim that this is the best amp Z makes? I mean, it does it all for me........ and after having owned most of Doc's amps, I find that the Little RX kinda has characteristics of all of them. Especially the "bitc5yness" of the z 28.......bottom end of the rt 66........and of course the cleans from the stang and MAz sr. ........just so easy to dial in a tone on this beast. If I need more hair, I find that all you need to do is turn the master up 1 unit and the front Volume down one as needed. This matching seems to keep it all in balance without losing any high/low end and only just adding more hair or more clean as needed. Underneath it all is this overdose option that just makes this thing turn into a zztop monster. Basically I am gushing as to take some of the burden off of Jason Gleaton.........to promote this thing! fellas, I think we have a real winner here! Z best/ rxjr.....=.....country/hard rock/R and B......50's 60's 70's tones all at happy volumes

Yep. I would agree the RXJr is a very special amp indeed. It definitely addresses many of the things that are commonly asked for in my view. If you're looking for a low watt amp that does it all, it's hard to imagine finding something that is better than this, especially if you have to constrain yourself to only one amp. Here's mine:

Well well, looks like I made a good choice for my first Z amp.
But seriously, I am really impressed with this amp.
Back to the basement of tone...

I agree with you James 100%. This is a great amp and I am having a ball with it. The learning curve is simple and the tone stack is very intuitive. I have been RIPPING like I have never done before. When it sounds good you play better... others have been telling me that for years. It's been like that with all my Dr. Zs and especially this one, since it fits so well with my current covers gig. I am all giddy about it too! I don't think you are being too hyped. Not many of us have these yet and the reactions are all VERY similar. It works great with a wide variety of speakers and I can use ALL of my guitars with minor tone tweaking. This weekend I plugged in a P90 guitar and it is all starting all over again. Gush away... It's all good!

I love my Rx ES but without the Z AirBrake it is too LOUD. Doc has done a fantastic job with Rx jr,it has all the sweet tone as my ES without the loudness.

aH... So CURT can now take over gushing duties for both me and James... After he gets home... plays the amp... with a tubby... no hurry... I'm sure it's just sitting at home... waiting for ya... I mean Mrs Curt DOES know it's coming right?? I'd hate for her to mistake the newest amp you haven't even played yet... for being the one in, " ONE OUT"... I mean that would be tragic if you got home and she's like, " One of em had to go" and " this one was already boxed up, so I knew you were probably gonna sell it anyway"... ;D

what really sold me on this 'un, was , it is close to a ghia, but it has a little more tonal variations.. all bottled up in one amp.. dr z tol me on the phone, he was afraid it was too close to a maz 18, but i dont think so.. with the ef86, it is its own tonal tool.. i love it... and i have an rx senior,, i am set,, but i wanna route 66 again..

Oh this amp is totally different from the Maz Jr. Totally different.

Totally different... Hmm I know describing tone is difficult and subjective a best, but could you try and elaborate a bit?
Used to have a Ghia and Maz Jr. Liked them but didn't love them. Currently playing Z28 and Route 66 and happy with them but this amp makes me restless...

To me, it's smiley face vs. frown - the RX seems to be more of a scooped tone whereas the Maz seems to have a lot more of that big fat midrange hump. Of course you can tune each towards the other, but I don't even think they get to where they cross over. I like both tones, but they are just so different.

I am a new Z owner ( Blonde Maz Jr w/Reverb and Z best Cab)in love with my Maz, what are your opinions between the RX and Maz for those who have had both? Thanks.

One immediate thing that comes to mind is that Rx Jr has a more "percussive" attack. Also, check around the board - there are several opinions on the comparison of these amps.

Some amps like one pickup over the other, but I don't get that from the RX Jr. Seems to sound great with either pup.

I feel the same way with a Les Paul and the RxJr. I was playing last week and I did more switching of pickups during the solos and during rhythm parts, than I ever usually do and I was getting the expected results tonewise. I love the fullness of this amp and the natural sustain even without the boost is great!

I've had my Rx Jr. for several months now and I can say that I like more as I've gotten to know it. I've just now gotten to a place where I use my boost. For sometime I just left it alone thinking it's too loud, but man can it add just enough crunch.
This is my first Z and I'm happy to say I made the right choice. I really like my Z 112 as well. I'm going to get rid of my V30 though. Sounds good with the amp, but just not what I'm going for.
And yeah, the amp is very percussive. Something I wasn't use to, but really like.
It's a winner!

Can anyone tell me the difference between using a Gold and a Z-best (G12+V30)??
I have a RX Jr.
Reason is, I have an Avatar 1x12 with Gold, but I WANT a Z-best cus of all the perfect reviews I've heard.
Nonetheless, I LOVE the RX Jr. and Gold.
