;D
It arrived.
All Black RX Jr. Head
This is my first Z. There aren't many words I can say to explain how good it sounds. Of course you all know what I'm talking about. It's so nice to enter a new world of tone. The cleans are really nice (I'm playing thru a Gold). The drive is really amazing. The versatility is really cool. Really.
I'm really excited to dig into this thing. Mmmm paradise.
Question: I'm thinking about getting another Avatar 1x12 cab. What speaker would complement the Gold? Or at least give me some different tones...
I've played a couple hours so far with my American Strat and PRS McCarty Brazilian. I'm liking the PRS better SO FAR. Then again, it's a higher quality guitar. I'd like to hear about your PRS<>RX Jr. experiences.
Peace
And thanks to Willcutt. Lucky me.

Congrats man, the RX is a very cool sounding amplifier. And it loves the Alnico Golds! I haven't tried it yet, but if I were to do a two twelve deal with a Gold and something else, I think I'd be tempted to try something that fills out on the bottom more. Like maybe a G12H-30 or maybe a Weber Alnico Blue or even the Ceramic Blue.

Yeah like Steve says! I have the Weber Blues, both Al and Cer and the Jr. has alot of bottom so I settled on the ceramic ...for now. The Silver ceramic is nice too. The Alnicos were very nice but with 15 watts output on the amp, I think the ceramics are louder and to me they are better for what I have to do. I have 50 watt and 30 watt versions and I like the 30 watt ones better with this amp.... a little brighter, but still rich and full bottom end.

That's what I'm dealing with now. I want to go with the Weber Blue and I think I should try the 30 watt, but not sure about ceramic or Alnico. I don't need more volume. Can you give me a bit or info bluzman? You've had both.

What I found was the RxJr. sounds great with and without the OverDose. So I tend to keep the overdose off... for now, while I'm still playing with it during the honeymoon. I've been in a situation that I am playing Gibsons lately. The AlNiCos weren't loud enough, but I think they sounded better than Great... but with just 15 watts and the other band members are kind of loud, I went with the 30 watt Weber Silver and Blue ceramic. The 50 watt AlNiCo webers with the cabinets I was using (front Theile ported) had a monstrous bottom... almost too much. Right now my rig sings. I have also used it with both cabs and with the singles and either way it blows me away... The soundman mikes the bottom cabinet with a kick mic about 1.5 feet from the front port and a flat 609 over the top speaker.
Now the above is without using the OverDose... but I did consider that and played with it before I decided on the ceramics. I am happy with all my Webers, but with the Rx Jr. I like what I am doing. I didn't try the Celestion Gold at all as I can't bring myself to pay that kind of money when the Webers are also easily available for 2/3 the price ...but it looks like I need to take that plunge. JUST BECAUSE!
But to answer your question... I think the 30 watt AlNiCo Silver or Blue will be great for you, but for less dough, you can go ceramic and get more volume. The 50 AlNiCo Webers (silver and blue) to my taste were too dark on the bottom end. The 30 watt AlNiCos took care of that but I needed that little extra, thus I went ceremic. It depends on what you are looking for.

many people say the junior has a whole lot of treble, i have found, with the gold especially it has way over the top low end/bass, i have to cut it back quite a bit, seems like z amps you just start with everything about 12 noon and adjust. my jr is dead quiet. another perk. i would like to hear what it sounds like with a big ol 4/12 cab though.

I'm using a 1x12, and I'd love to get a Gold for mine, however, since the Weber 50W Alnico is reportedly very very close to the Gold, and $100 cheaper, I'm going to go with that.
The RxJR does indeed have a ton of Bass (as well as treble), however... I WANT my RxJR a little darker, which is why I decided to go with the 50W. I'll eventually get a matching red cab, probably a Boogafunk like Bluzman has, just have to decide if I want ported, or semi-open back...

Thanks for the input guys. I've been playing mine with the cabinet closes on my 112 convertible and this amp has the thump! It can get overbearing if you don't cut it back, but some folks like a lot of bass.
I think I'll go with the Weber Blue 30 watt alnico. Of course I could change my mind. I just can't bring myself to buy a Cel Gold.

Congrats on the amp! I just got mine too, and love it! I sold a London, and I think, for me, this amp is way more versatile, and sounds better out of the box.
A suggestion for you, if you're going to run another 12 is to go with a speaker with an american cone. The Weber 12A150A at 50 watts would be a great match for your gold, or the ceramic 12A150F would be something to consider. That way you have a balance of crunchy mids from the gold, and a smooth, lower end roll off with the Jensen style speaker.
With that being said, all of the above posters are right too. Anything you mix with the gold will sound great, and I'm convinced any speaker you place with the jr. will work wonderfully.

That's one thing I've noticed about both my Prescription amps here - they do sound great with every speaker I own. Not all my amps can make that claim, but the RXES and RXJr sure can.
