When I test drove this at Alpha Audio in Mystic, CT, I was plugged into a 2x12 Black Z-Best cabinet. I have the Dr. Z Al-Blue 2x12 cabinet. While it sounds good, I'm jonesing for that Z-Best sound!! It seems more balanced to my ear. If it was a red Z-Best, I'd already have had it here!
The tonal range of this amp is massive!
Tonight, I'm gonna try my open/closed back Weber 15" 15F150... in red of course, open option. I'll also try my Weber 2x12 fluorescent lime green, salt and pepper grille, open/closed back problably in closed option... I'll try both ways!
If I have time I'll hook it to some 10s and even my Maz Jr. Dr. Z speakers.
I'll report back... keep in mind that I'm more of a rhythm and riff player and not a shredder (I'm mostly into the 70s funk sounds) so that is how I judge the tones I like.

I haven't been up to that shop in Mystic. I'd love to test drive the Rx Jr. when I back for fall break.

Randy and Andy are great guys. A very nice High end store, and I'm glad they finally started carrying Dr. Z amps!

I'd go for the G12H. Broader sound. The V30 is very mid rangy...I have one at the moment and changing it out for a G12H. Love the convertible cab...good full sound.

I'm playing my JR thru an Eminence Alnico Red Fang 1x12 open back, and sounds great. Plenty of bass & treble. It's lacking a bit in the mids, but I think this is the AMP DESIGN (tone signature) and not the speaker... because my other fave amp (Genz Benz Black Pearl, an AC30 design) is played thru the same speaker cab, and has plenty of mids.
Not a knock on the RxJR sound signature at all... I love the thing! But it's just not made for thick, middy tones. Maybe through a GB?

Hey; Watch out when you change out the V30 for A G12H. The G12H has a thinner rim, when I changed the V30 for the G12H I put one screw in and it was pushing the grill cloth out, almost poked a hole...So I got scews 1/4 inch shorter. Just a heads up.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm actually swooping cabs so I won't have to mess with a speaker change. I do plan to try a Weber Bluddog one of these days....I'll keep be sure to remember your advice.

I just heard Don's RxJr through his new 1X12 convertible cab with a Celestion Gold, and boy did it sound killer.
