He has some pics of his gear over on his myspace page. one is an endorsement ad for Genz Benz. One is a pic of his new signature guitar. But all the "working" pics show him playing a Tele. There's a picture of a Twin Reverb there, and a pic of his pedal board that doesn't seem like there's anything that would be considered special mojo. I think you have to concede maybe a lot of it is the player!

Agreed! I've read that his Blackface Deluxe Reverb is his go-to amp. So if you had to pick a Z, I would guess the Z28, as it's kind of like a Deluxe on steroids. Much better bottom than the Deluxe though.

I Play the Genz Benz Black pearl that he endorses- AMAZING amp. Has no trouble keeping up with my RxJR, and does a couple things the JR CAN'T. I know it's PCB & mass-produced, but it's designed very well, amazing tones, highly recommended.

I always thought the Black Pearl was sort of AC30-ish. So wouldn't the Stangray be closer?

I always thought the Black Pearl was sort of AC30-ish. So wouldn't the Stangray be closer? The BP30 is designed to be an AC30, but also alot more. It has more gain than a Stangray, a little more than the RxJR(and it's footswitchable, just like the RxJRs overdose, except you can adjust the amount of gain), I dare say with all the pres maxed you'll get GT-like gain, we're talking EVH here. Also has a voicing switch that has 5 poisitions from bright to dark. The EQ has a super wide range (unlike the RxJR which sounds good anywhere you put the EQ, but it always sounds like an RxJR), the BP30 can cop many amp tones. It's almost a "tube modeler" for lack of a better word. I've been A/Bing these 2 amps ever since I got my RxJR. Not only can the BP30 "keep up" with the Jr, but it can sound almost exactly like it (thru the same speaker/cab, of course). I'm talking I can get 90-95% of the way to RxJR tones...and then the BP30 can do so much more. Don't misunderstand- I'm not saying one amp is better than the other. They are both fantastic. I just hate when people dismiss something because it's not handwired or not boutique. The RxJr is a great amp, it just is what it is, like alot of Doc's amps. If it's "the tone" for you, then it's sensational. But I wouldn't call it versatile, honestly. It always sounds like an RxJR. The BP30 was simply designed to have a wider range of tones, that's all. And it does it very well. I'm usually NOT for "swiss army amps" anymore because they are "jack of all trades, master of none", but Jeff Genzler really got it RIGHT with this amp. I thought the RxES/RxJR was also a take on the AC30... I assume, because it was made for Brad Paisley, AC30 guy. I thought several of Doc's amps were???

Search for Jayson Chance on here...he's posted many clips of various amps, speakers, etc. Some of his Maz clips have a Mason-like sound...he also has a clip playing through an old Deluxe Reverb and it is Mason's sound to a "T".
