hey guys, cool forum. an old friend of mine is having an issue with his Z. he states: having amp troubles w my dr z. it smoked to silence the last gig. power light was still on, just no sound. I have replaced 4 output tubes, and 2 preamp tubes, and both fuses - i get sound , very low volume, master volume has very little effect. when channel volume is turned up all the way, it goes completely silent - any ideas?

Check the rectifier-tube!

Yes, check and replace rectifier tube. Also look for anything mechanical i.e., loose speaker wires, etc. Things happen when we aren't looking....

he says he's replaced all tubes including rectifier. & it's funny, because it powers up, & even makes sound until he brings the preamp volume on up, & it cuts out. like the pi is od'ing? i dunno. would the rectifier/other tube failure have knocked out any other resistors/capacitors? thanks for the replies guys.

Sounds like it needs internal work. Best get it to a tech or contact Dr. Z.
