I'm currently running a Celestion Vintage 30 and G12H 70th Anniversary speakers (16 Ohms each) wired for 8 Ohms. It sounds fantastic in my Route 66 set on 8 Ohms. However, I'm thinking of swapping those for the real deal Celestion Heritage Series G12M & G12H Heritage to really hit Jimi nirvana with my KT66 loaded Route 66.
1. Would 2 x 8 0hm speakers wired for 4 Ohms sound better than 2 x 16 ohms = 8 Ohms? 2. The Heritage speakers say they come in 8 Ohms or 15 Ohms. Is 2 x 15 Ohms = 7.5 Ohms close enough to plug into the 8 Ohm output?
Thanks!

DC - here!
1. Would 2 x 8 0hm speakers wired for 4 Ohms sound better than 2 x 16 ohms = 8 Ohms? No I don't think t matters!
2. The Heritage speakers say they come in 8 Ohms or 15 Ohms. Is 2 x 15 Ohms = 7.5 Ohms close enough to plug into the 8 Ohm output? Yes almost certainly no problems what so ever.

tone wise no difference. the only other idea to think about is that if you got 8ohm speakers you can wire them for 16ohm or 4 ohm, if you went with the 16's then your got to go parallel at 8ohms.

Thanks fisholot! That is a VERY good point! So for the most versatility, I would probably be better off with ordering 2 x 8 Ohms. Though I've been reading lots of forums just now and some are saying the Chinese greenbacks sound better than the UK Heritage versions and that the g12M Heritage has some kind of not so nice sounding high end sizzle and the G12H is kind of flat and better suited for bass so I'm on the fence now what to do. I'm thinking maybe putting a Chinese made Greenback 25 watts with a Vintage 30 60 watter. Has anyone done that here and liked it?

I dont have any experance with the chinese greenbacks but I have played my route 66 with the g12h and the vint 30 in a z-best also I have a z-best with blues and a dr z 4x10 and they all are killer.. I do seem to like the 4x10's the most. So I think most decent speakers will go fine with it you just may have to adjust a little to find the sweet spot for the set up...

My Z Best has a Greenback and G12H30 - it sounds great! ;D I liked the Rt 66 with it, but I've liked every amp I've put through that cab...

Krutzy, is your Greenback a Heritage or Chinese made? I keep reading advantages to both as the Chinese ones are supposed to be using some of the original Celestion manufacturing equipment. I kind of what that wild Hendrix breakup for thiose kind of songs and sweet blues tones but clarity when needed like Gilmouresque. The G12H 70th and Vintage 30 seem not to break up easily with the 66 or any amp.

This probably only makes sense in my head, but I'd say it sounds like wood that starts to spit when it gets pushed.
