I recently purchased a RX-ES and in my quest for tone I tried several of the outputs in the back of the head to two old 8 ohm Jensen's wired parallel the 8 ohm out sounded kind of sterile with the odrive on the 4ohm was a little better for the heck of it I plugged into the 16ohm output I know I probably shouldn't but let me tell you what nailed that Paisley tone sounded great both clean and with odrive. question how bad is this for my amp and is there another way to create that load.

You had a 4 ohm load on the 16 ohm tap? I wouldn't do that very long (well, I wouldn't do that at all). If you wire your speakers in series you'll get 16 ohms.

You sure you had the speakers wired in parallel for 4 ohms and not in series for 16 ohms?? I've never been too happy with the sound of a mismatch although I've never gone that far ;D
Which way was it the loudest??? It should be loudest when it's matched.

I really don't know which way is louder I haven't turned it up past 4 but its probably gigging volume. I am going to try wiring the speakers up in series to get a 16 ohm load I hope the tone stays the same though I couldn't put my guitar down the last couple times I played it wired like it is now.

A) 8 ohms speaker to 8 ohms amp - is full nominal effect
b) 16 ohms speaker to 8 ohms amp - is half nominal effect
C) 4 ohms speaker to 8 ohms amp - is double nominal effect
In example C this is dependent on the total dimensioning of PowerTrannies, Output trannies, filtercaps output tubes etc etc. The examples are purely theoretical, lots things comes into play here.
Organized from loud to quiet: C), A), B).
The cabs and loudspeakers must be the same, as much as possible of course.
