Are these really the same amps with different power tubes and biased accordingly? Can the trannies in any of them handl the current requirements for any set of power tubes (6V6, EL34 or KT66)?
If they are not the same, what are the differences?

This definitely sounds like a question for Doc himself. Cheers: Dixiechicken

From what I understand, the front end and tone stacks are the same but the power amps are designed specifically for the tubes being used in those amps. I think there's more to it then just transformers being able to handle on tube or another.
One of the reasons I like Doc's amps is the fact that he seems to design around the output section and tweak it to fit the specific tube's sonic and technical spec.

Front end tone stack is the same. Power section makes them all different. No, cannot drop an EL34 into the Z28 or put a 6V6 into a Route66. They're not designed to handle the different current requirements.
Have all 3 and they're from the same family but all very different tonally as you'd expect with such different power tubes.
Great amps btw!

They are very different amps and there are differences in many places.
NEVER subject a 6V6 to 6L6/KT66 voltages.
Never use an EL34 in a 6L6 amp that has 470 ohm screen resistors ... you need 1k ohm 5 watters.
They may all have an EF86 in the front end and the same number of knobs but that is where the similarity ends.
