I bought a gently used MAZ Sr. head. I've always used regular, short guitar cable to connect a head to a cab but, just like everything in this modern new world (the last time I bought a new amp before this year was in 1970) there is the "right way" to do it and I'm guessing that would be special speaker cable. What does the Dr. sell for his head & cab combinations?

I don't know that he actually sells anything that I've heard but make sure you use speaker wire or cable and not coaxial guitar cable

Never use guitar cable. You can get good quality speaker cable at almost any music store. I just checked at Musician's Friend, and you can get Live Wire (fairly generic cable) 3 footer for $14.99, or a 5-footer for $17.99. That's about right for 14 AWG cable, which should be plenty good for that short distance. See www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Live-Wire-14GA-Speaker-Cable?sku=331141 if you're curious. But you CAN pay a lot more...

It always amazes me that guys recommend heavy speaker wire cable between their amp head and speaker cab. Did you ever look at the wire size running from the spade lug into the speaker's voice coil?
Tiny! Tiny! Maybe 32 gage. It has to be flexible, so it's really fine wires, loosely woven together.

I always use 2-wire Supra 2.5 square-mm oxygenfree copper cable, 625 strands in each wire. Bought lots of this cable when I built the PA-rig for my band. I solder it my self with Neutrik-connectors.

Speaker cable is for power, instrument cable is for signal - you should never interchange them. The best speaker cable I've tried is the Van Den Hul Inspiration Hybrid. It really makes a huge improvement over standard low end cables. I a/b'd the VDH with the Kimber cable, Evidence Audio, and Cardas speaker cables that are carried by Lava Cable. I kept them all for about three months and burned them all in. The VDH was the best hands down. It wasn't even close. I love it's rich and balanced tone. I plan on getting one or two more of them.
Regarding the speaker wiring inside the cab - Just because thin, low-budget wire is standard issue doesn't mean standard issue is good. Who on this site prefers standard issue sound quality? This is Z-talk. We appreciate superior tone. Plus, everyone wants a durable product that won't pick up outside signals. You can get really good cab wire from any of the companies mentioned above and lots more not mentioned. I recommend that you avoid Pro-Co (not great sound quality) and Monster Cable (a little better sounding but not a good value at that price point.) As soon as I'm done experimenting with cabs and drivers I'll be using VDH wire in all my cabs.
Be sure to use good quality solder with high silver content.
I hope that's helpful.
