Need help here guys...
I am moving on form a Maz Jr NR. The amp sounds great, but I need more head room. I want a more AC30 kind of tone... I am just not sure whether I want a RXES or a StangRay. I will usually be running pedals and wont ever be cranking the amp enough to get amp overdrive... unless I get an attenuator.
Which one has more clean head room? And, how close in tone can a RXES get to a Stangray?
I play alot of rock, but I also do alot of blues, some funk, and Pop/R&B. I also like to get super chimey "The Edge" kind of tones. Versatility is a MUST. And once again, I will probably never crank the amp enough to create amp distortion - I need to go from super clean to very overdriven really quick.
I mostly play Strats and a 335. I use a FD2 and a Landgraff Dynamic Overdrive from my OD's.
Thanks for the input!

Owning both of them, here's what comes to mind:
-Stang/StingRay, moderate power, great cleans, lots of headroom, smooth & refined, extra thick tone, huge bottom, takes OD pedals well. Out of eleven Z's, the only one I kept longer was a Maz Jr. Ray is still going strong, not even close to leaving my possession!
-RxES, lots of authority, very good cleans, lots of headroom, percussive and aggressive, fast attack, will bury most of your friends amps in a showdown ;D. The overdose is nice, personally I never needed or used an OD pedal with this amp. A monster.

I just played both side by side a couple weeks ago and Bill is right on. Only thing I could add is I thought the RXES could get some of the same clean tones as the Ray more or less, but I don't think the Ray could do any of the overdrive tones that the RXES could get. Seems to me the RXES was a little more versatile in that regard. Both are cool, not my cup of tea, but do what they do very, very well. And both are LOUD! Consider an Airbreak regardless of which one you buy. Good Luck!!
