Hey guys,
Just picked up some Groove Tube EL84s at GC. The only ones they had were rated #4. I'm a little concerned they'll break up too much. I know #6s are the norm. How much more break up am I gonna get with the #4s? I don't really want to open the package and then find out they totally don't work for me...
Thanks!

Mike Mike, They will break up a little sooner but less than 1/2 a notch on your volume knob. Both 5's and 6's are stock but the difference between a "high 4" and a "low 5" would be a matter of less than 1 milliamp. But ... here is a bit of a tip .... Get them in the amp pretty fast ... within a week of the date on the sales receipt. If you don't like how they sound then just call Rick Benson at GT toll free ... say you don't like them and ask for an exchange for #6's. That is part of GT's guarantee that a lot of people don't seem to know about in addition to the stuff that most do know about. But ... on "not being happy with the tone" there is a week or so period where that works. You can call Rick toll free at GT at 1-800-459-5687 by the way. If you have any issues you can ask for me too at that number but I am only there M-F from about 8-11am PST.

Anyone prefer lower number output tubes in there MAZ's? I've got a gig tonight that I'm not going to try these out on, but I'll fire them up tomorrow...
