So I was poking around (carefully!) in the back of my Maz Jr last night, & noticed the little wire cage thingies around the output tubes. I've seen them a million times, but never really noticed them before.
What are these things? Retainers? Are they necessary? Do they contribute or shield noise? Wassup?
Thanks in advance for tolerating my dumbassity-ness.

They just hold the '84s in place a little tighter, and keep 'em in position so all the pins will be pushed all the way in...be careful when you change tubes that the bent ends don't get folded under between the bottom of the tube and the socket, so that it could short the pins! Maximum smoke will ensue...or at least a blown fuse.
