The "Which Z is right for me" question, with the elusive answer.
First, let me say Hi I’m new here and quickly becoming a Z addict after playing a few and reading a bunch on these forums.
I’m in the market for a new amp and currently looking at the boutique makers.
I really fell in love with the 65 London but the price for the head alone is more than I’d really like to pay.
My style is hard rock, blues, classic rock, and some pop punk. Our band is more hard rock with a blues influence.
I’m currently using a Marshal JCM 2000 DSL50 with a G&L USA S-500 (my main axe) and G&L USA Legacy special. I use a Fulltone FD2, clyde wah and a boss digital delay.
I’m on that search for the quintessential search for tone (aren’t we all) really looking to define myself more than anything.
As far as what I’m looking for in an amp is: It has to be a head, versatility in sounds, something I can clean up or get really dirty using the volume control on my guitar, it should take to pedals well should I use them, something that really allows the true tone of the guitar and what I am doing to shine through (the Marshall does not do this well) and something that’ll work for gigging/rehearsal even if it has to be mic’d
I also want something that I can use at home that is not going to drive my fiancée or neighbors crazy that I can Power Brake and sacrifice little to no tone loss. (So a Dr Z air brake is in my future I only hope it works better than the Marshall power brake or what I like to refer to as a tone sponge)
I’ve been interested in both the Max Jr and Z28 but haven’t found any near me that I can try.
I’m also looking at cabinets and again come back to the London cabinet 2x12 which are 1 Celestion G12H30 & 1 Alnico Blue of course I’m not sure how that’ll sound with either the Max or Z28. Perhaps a Z best cab?
Thoughts, comments, tips, other suggestions, donations are all much appreciated!
Thanks!
