As I'm contemplating buying a new amp, I am trying to get away from the Fender-ish and Vox-ish sounding amps. I am looking for alternatives to old Plexi Marshalls like the 100w Super Lead or JMP 50 (or similar).
Which Dr. Z amp sounds most like what I am describing?

I would say 6545 or SRZ-65. They come up for sale here and there used. Have not been in production for a little while. The SRZ-65 was just re-released as a limited edition of 35 samples. You may still be able to find one. I would try Wild West Guitars or Fat Sound Guitars first and go through the dealer list. Also, check ebay for used samples and here on the forum as well.

A Route 66 is similar to the normal channel on a plexi.

I'd have to say a delta 88.... I've had one for a month, and it's a very rawm aggresive, in your face plexi sound... get the volume up to 1:00 and it breaks up, but does not saturate, keeps its rawness.....
check out my Delta 88 sound clips in the delta section..
I find from hearing the srz-65, it sounds a lot more like an 80's jcm 800 in the way it saturates and then thickness of the tone....

Totally SRZ-65 .... look in the SRZ-65 area at some of my Carl Verheyen posts.
