Greetings,
Considering a used early 90s production (so stated) Dr. Z Maz 18 NR head...how does one of that era compare to current production? Are they the same design? Any worthwhile improvements to the current production models?
Appreciate any thoughts...thanks for your time! Bryan

Might be best to go to the Experts section and ask Brent, or try to ask Dr Z himself. You'll need the serial number because I don't think any Maz 18s are that old.

Ditto what billyguitar said. I know the Maz 38 was out first (before the 18) and supposedly the 18 was origionally intended to be a lower power version. As it turned out more to his liking, I believe the 38 ended up being rethought in newer production to emulate the newer 18. I also remember reading that Fat Sound Guitars suggested the Doc build a barer bones model without the reverb to drop the price point a bit and hence the NR was born. I don't know any of the dates in the evolution process but what has me curious is if the NR was conceived in the early 90's

I was told by the owner that he "bought the amp at the end of 1993; serial number begins with O." (MAZ-18 Jr. NR head in black tolex/black & tan grillcloth, with effects loop).
Thanks again for your time and any further info. Bryan

I forget the code but I think an O is more like 2003. Someone will know or as I suggested check with Brent at Dr Z.

From the doc himself:
So the way I figure it, the letter O would be 2004

And there it is. I guess that renders my original question moot.
Thanks so much guys! Bryan

From the doc himself: So the way I figure it, the letter O would be 2004 Steve's right - O indicates 2004. I own a 1993 Dr. Z and the serial # starts with D. Mind you, the serial # is handwritten, and I suppose it would be possible to think the handwritten D looks like an O... Cheers, Blair
