Greetings all,
Who makes good road cases? I've never needed one before. :-) I'm picking up my first Z on Friday and I'll be damned if I'm not going to take care of it.
Thanks guys and gals
Seth

Ya know, it was a bit of a "bait & switch," but I'm pretty pleased with a couple of cases I just bought on eBay from "NYCase." I say "bait & switch" because the listing is a little mis-leading, and they are WAY overcharging for shipping. But here's the deal- They have a "Mazerati Head Case" for $39.99. Knowing that the Mazerati shares dimensions with many of the other Z heads, I ordered one for my MAZ38NR head. But, at $39, it has NOTHING. No latches, no carpet interior, no protective corners, zilch. So I had to order the "ATA" option which was another $20, then had to pay $10 for them to install the foam interior. Plus, since I was buying two, I called them to see if they would combine shipping. Nope. $38 flat rate from NY to Nashville. Like I said, too much. THEN, they charged me an extra $10 for doing a "phone order." So they pretty much nickel & dime you to death.
All in all, with shipping and everything, I ended up paying right at $100 each for my MAZ38 and Route 66 head cases. Considering they are built nicely, I thought it was still a better deal than what I would have gotten somewhere else. The X cases look nice, but were $75 more *before* shipping.
The guy I spoke to on the phone was super nice & helpful, even though I thought their method was odd. Who in the world wants a road case with no interior lining, protective corners, or latches???
Check at their eBay store under "NyCase" on eBay. Or do a search on eBay for "Dr Z."
These are NOT heavy duty cases, though. They are 1/4" ply instead of 3/8." 3/8" is an upcharge. I didn't need the 3/8, though, after deciding I was never gonna fly my heads. I spent two years touring with my MAZ 38 2 12" combo in one of these "econo" cases with 1/4" ply and it stood up just fine. In fact, I still have the case for a 2 12" extension cabinet.
But like BW, DWeller, and others have said...XCase Wholesale seems to be the best value if you want to heavier duty cases.

I've gotten some cases from a company called Island cases and I now think they are the same company as NYcases. It appears they have the same phone number.
I first bought a case from them for my Twin. It was perfect. They aren't as heavy duty but the good thing (for me) about that is that they also don't weigh as much.
Recently, I bought a case from them for my Maz Sr 2x12. When it got here it didn't have wheel on it. When I called my sales person about it she tried to tell me that I didn't order wheels. We argued for a while. She finally looked up the order and realized that she had left them off. She ended up sending me a board with the wheels attached for me to attach to the bottom of the case. It doesn't seem as sturdy as the Twin case but so far it hasn't fallen apart. The wheel board doesn't seem quite right. We shall see.

I also bought a case from Island Cases, similar to NYCase, off of ebay. It was everything that they advertised, but what I didn't like was that the handles seem backwards to me. They are attatched just like the pictures show. Ususally, I would load a head into a case, into the larger portion of the two pieces, then attach the top, thinner section and latch. Well, these are the opposite.
