Hi folks. I have a Maz 38 that I like and use for louder gigs but a fellow is selling his 1998 Maz jr 2x10 for a fair price and I thought that it would be nice to have that amp for gigs where less power (and weight) is needed. Can anyone tell me if there have been any changes made from those early jrs that I should know about? Or are they being built exactly the same with the same parts etc? I'm in Vancouver Canada and there are not a lot of these amps around here. Thanks

Hey Buster, Have you thought of looking into a Z Air Brake? Way less money than a new amp. Lots of guys on the forum are using one with great results on their Maz Sr's Most report it helps to tame her for live venues. I just picked one up for my Jr and so far I am loving every minute of it. Just a thought. [glow=limegreen,2,300]-J-[/glow]

Hi Jebus Crebus and thanks for the suggestion. Not a bad idea and indeed I have an ultimate attenuator that I sometimes use for home recording. I guess I should have mentioned that I was thinking the smaller amp would take up less space on tighter stages, be easier to carry and a little less powerful. Taking an attenuator would mean that I would have to add another item to carry. Dropping 40lbs would be nice and small amps sound and react differently I think in smaller venues too. This maz jr 2x10 came up and I thought it might be a good idea but I was wondering if the newer ones had been improved a lot. I read for example in another post that early maz jrs had reverb ground loop problems. So maybe it might make more sense to pass on an old one and perhaps consider a new or newer one. Buster

Buster- this is the setup I use and it works exactly as you describe. I take the MAZ 38 with 2 12's on gigs where the stage is larger and there's plenty of PA. I also use it on a few downtown gigs where the band is pretty loud and my amp is un-mic'ed.
The MAZ 18 with 2 10's is plenty of amp for most rehearsals, sessions, and club gigs. Even with a loud band, you can get away with an un-mic'ed MAZ 18 in certain rooms.

Thanks for the input JChance, I was actually wondering if older model Z jr.s were different from new ones and although I bought the amp anyways after playing through it, I would still like to find out if anyone knows. It is loaded with two Blue Pups and the guy I bought it from is throwing in the original speakers ( Z's I believe) on top of that. I have read in some of your previous posts that you were using the Z speakers in your jr. and upon hearing the blue pups I also am thinking that headroom could be an issue. The blue pups are very nice sounding speakers indeed and I personally found them to be on the warmer side. Are the Z 10's a little brighter I'm sort of guessing? Nice playing by the way. Buster
