It's really weird, there is a ghost note, and it also sounds like it's being run through a tremolo pedal on both side. There is also some power loss. It's not subtle, basically renders the amp unplayable.
It just happened all of a sudden. Because it hit both sides, I changed power tubes and the power tranformer (the 5AR4), but still the same problem persists. Any ideas?

Maybe , Maybe one of the large series connected filter caps on the right side of the board has a broken lead or has become disconnected.
If that occurred, then what you explained could happen.

O.k. thanks. Excuse my ignorance here, but is this the kind of thing a regular amp tech could diagnose and repair. I live in San Diego, and I am not sure how to go about getting it repaired. There are two amp techs in the area that I know about, but I'm not completely confident they will be familiar with the 6545.

Any tech could handle the scenario that Doc refers to.

You could drop Myles a note or call, I'm sure he would recommend a Tech as he's in LA.

Unfortunately - this is a repair job I need ASAP. My band is currently recording and the loss of the 6545 has been HUGE. I need to get this thing up and running - like yesterday. We got some decent rythm tones last night by slaving my Mazerati from a Fender Deville, but in the end it's just not the same. The timing of this problem couldn't have been worse. One day I'll send it in for a full tune-up.

Hi Kidmagic, a good amp tech is as important to me as a good guitar guy, when ya need em ya need em bad! Fortunately with really well built amps and guitars we dont need them very often, but things happen sometimes. If you havent already i'd talk to the nearest boutique shop that sells higher end gear and see who they use or recomend.

AHHH - the pain continues.. Local tech couldn't figure out the problem. It's definitely not tubes, and definitly not the big blue caps on the right side
