My MAZ Sr combo has a 16 ohm spk. It sounds great but I've other cabs with an 8 ohm load and don't care to swap out spks. What are the technical differences and expected responses if I use an 8 ohm load and the 8 ohm output from the Amp.

I'd be surprised if you could tell any difference, other than the differences in cabinets.

Wait a minute, I guess that I have never understood my amp. I have a Mazerati combo w/ a 16 ohm V30, the amp has a 4 ohm and an 8 ohm speaker out.
Can I use those other outputs on their own with a cabinet of the same impedence? 4 ohm cab into 4 ohm speaker out 8 to 8 etc... Multiple cabs is another situation, I got that one already. I just thought that my amp was a 16 ohm amp. But, I think I understand that it is able to do all three loads, 4, 8, and 16. Am I correct?

Hey Foxx, Yes you are correct in your thinking. The recommended use for tube amps is to match the load ohm to the output ohm rating. You can mismatch in only one direction for different responses. Meaning, you can run a higher load value to the output rating, (i.e. run a 16 ohm cab to the 8 ohm output or 8 ohm load to a 4 ohm output). Never in any circustance should the load value be less than that output ohm value, a bad thing would be an 8 ohm cab plugged into the 16 ohm output. As I understand it you run risk of overheating and damaging the output transformer. And that's a bad thing!
The main reason for my question was somewhere on this forum I read that with the MAZ you'll get the most from your output transformer if you use the 16 ohm output setting? As Billyguitar sad I don't think I would notice the difference and my ears didn't pick up the difference but I'm curious what the experts say the differences are.
