Ok, I have a 2x12 cab with an 8 and 16 ohm speaker wired in parallel.
As I understand it, the formula is: Total resistance = (R1*R2)/(R1+R2)
or
(8*16)/24 = 5.33
Anyone see a problem with this? Also, as I understand it, the 4 ohm tap on my Mazerati is the one to use with this load. Thanks!! Doug

Looks right to me.

Wouldn't the 8 ohm get most of the juice?

Wouldn't the 8 ohm get most of the juice? Well Ohms Law states that Watts = Volts(squared)/Ohms. Since we're talking about two impedances in parallel, any voltage that appears across one speaker, appears across the other. So you can do a test case by supplying a voltage in the formula to see which speaker gets the most power. Lets' try 20 Volts: Power = 20(squared)/8 = 50 watts Power = 20(squared)/16 = 25 watts So assuming your amp applied 20 volts across the speakers, that would be the answer. I think when you think about it that it makes sense - the speaker with twice the resistance dissipates half as much power as the lower resistance speaker when they are in parallel.

We were water skiing once and the singer had never skied before. He was doing pretty good and I said so when he got back in the boat. His response was "It's all mathematics and engineering, Billy!". He didn't know what he was talking about but it was funny! I appreciate the mathematics and engineering Ben, I mean Steve!

Billy, I have found that everything in life is mathematics and engineering, except my wife... [/quote] Dang'it Steve, I just put on this clean shirt and now thanks to you... I've snotted myself and need to change! When I was younger I thought I understood mathematics, (i.e. 38.24.38) but you've made me realize that my math was wrong. I shouldn't have skipped out on calculus class to hang at the band room. The complete equation was 38.24.38 = -$
