So I just got a Maz 38 Reverb. I am completely blown away! I have never owned really nice amp before and I have to say it has completely changed the way I play. I am interacting with amp much differently than I used too. Like most other players I relied on distortion pedals to achieve different amounts of gain. Now with the Maz 38 I have been able to achieve so many tonal variances by just adjusting the relationship between the master volume, volume and the volume on my gretsch. The problem is now I have actually been afraid to add anything else in the signal path because I don't want it dulling the tone. However from a practical standpoint I don't want to just stop using some of the pedals I have at the expense of saving the 'tone'. I have a moogerfooger ring modulator, a boss tuner, volume pedal and an akai headrush that I use as part of my pallet of tools when playing. I started experimenting with putting the pedals in different order and quickly realized things sounded much better through the efx loop-- esp. pedals like the moogerfooger and headrush that have the capability of adding levels to the gain structure. What I am really curious about is where in the signal path is the efx loop added? Is it after the preamp? Is there a steady amount of gain being sent to the pedals at all time, or is it proportional to how hot the signal is being sent into the amp? Doesn't it make more sense to put overdrive pedals at the input of the amp so they will be driving the preamp, rather than pushing the efx loop?I know there are alot of questions here but I really like to understand how everything is working in order to have complete control over the tone of the instrument when I'm playing.
Any input would be appreciated.
Cheers!!!
