Hi guys, I am wanting to replace my Deluxe reverb, due to the fact that the Stingray is killing it right now for everything I used the deluxe for(except the weight). So I am stuck between the Z-28 or the Maz18JR as a deluxe replacement. I am having a hard time deciding between the two. What are your thoughts? Anyone have experience with all three amps? Thanks guys, Arun

Hi Arun! I've got a MAZ 38 head, a Stingray head, have played through a couple of Z-28's, and am familiar with the Deluxe sound. After gigging with my Stingray for the first time yesterday ( see post in "Finally got to gig with my Stingray"), I've decided to sell the MAZ 38 because I don't need 2 EL84 amps, and for the other reasons mentioned in the post. Between the MAZ 18, and the Z-28, I prefer the Z-28. It's got a great natural drive sound, and the 6V6's sound great and are the same power platform as the Deluxe. I like the idea of having different flavors, not different takes on the same flavor. And if you like the way the EF86 works in the Doc's amps, the Z-28 is equipped that way, and the interaction between the volume and tone controls is unreal. I vote for the Z-28. That or a Route 66 will be my next Z amp Have a great weekend! Harold

I vote for the Z28. I replaced my Deluxe Reverb with this amp. The 6v6's give you that Fender chime, but more of a Brown Deluxe than a Blackface Deluxe. I also think the cleans are great with the Z28 & the OD never gets harsh like with the Deluxe Reverb. What happened to the Delta 88

I played my Z-28 for 5 minutes and ordered one a short while later after saving a few dollars. You'll love it.

Thanks guys! Karma to all of you. Hey LeftyLang, I would have gotten the Delta but thought it wiser to pay of my loan. I still might but I am going to wait until the Maz38Sr gets in before I make a decision. I want to trade in the Deluxe because the Stingray rocks for a voxish amp, I can't imagine how the Z-28 would rock for a fenderish amp. One question, is the Z-28 clean headroom comparable to the Deluxe's. Are they the same or is one got more headroom than the other? Thanks, Arun Anymore opinions are still welcome.

I would say that the Z28 has more clean headroom, but not a blackface clean....more of a Brown Deluxe clean. You can increase the clean headroom by running a 12ay7 in P1...according to Myles. My tone has never been better than with the Z28!!...& I have owned a ton of amps!
