I hear you, 19jmm68. But if you count the Vox DA5 as an amp, I only have one amp and two guitars so I have a ways to go before I start questioning my new found habit. My Z Best is waiting on its Maz Jr head to be complete. The "what next" question if a tuff one for sure.

I just want to know if it is a 40W approximation of the SRZ so I know whether to transfer my fantasy to a less insane Wattage for my needs. But then I remember that the Galaxie 500 with the 650HP 427 was banned by NASCAR... It will be as close as a Marshall 2204 is to a Fender tweed Super. Not anywhere close. Totally different topology.... Is my 105 HP Scion anywhere close to a 105 HP Austin Healey 3000? Same sort of deal. Wattage is not a good way, or even an adequate way to compare amps.

So what is the sound concept of this new amp.? What is it's proposed role in tone?

In 1964 my Dad bought a 1960 Ford station wagon. 352 two barrel and three on the tree. Black with a white top. I always liked the '60s!

Actually I got to thinking I not only owned a 69 Galaxie but a 64 XL convertable and a 65 2 dr HT as well . I had a lot of cars when I was growing up into my late 20's then I got kids and it slowed some ;D. Owned a new 72 Chevy VEGA , what a mistake that one was . Please do not name an amp after that POS !

Will it be sqeaky clean or will it have some serious gain and growl like the SRZ?

[glow=red,2,300]From Doc's post;[/glow]
tweaked to be a sweet Tele Tweed clean tone on one channel, then foot switchable to a VERY HOT Lead channel. Shared Treble and Bass as well as Presence, 5U4 rectified with a Pentode/Triode switch . Pentode 40 watts Triode 30 watts. This amp has a cathodyne Phase Inverter like the Princeton's and the old Tweed Bandmasters, non symmetrical drive for a rich 3 order harmonic. Original Triad wound on a stick Output Tyrannies, modern features with great Tweed Tone.

I'd probably never use the lead channel. I'm a little less intrigued now than I was. I probably won't order one unheard like I did the Stang Ray and Route 66. The Evan concept is still the one that's calling me.

*cough...bullsh*t.....cough* ;D Now Lefty, were that the case I woudn't have to dodge a blue million Buckeyes down here at Lake Cumberland every boating season! ;D Better Ohio than Colorado...seems like everyone from California likes to think that the higher you get to Heaven the better. Just because your a mile high doesn't mean your closer to heaven. Actually, I thought all the Californians moved to the higher elevations because they found it more convenient to look down their nose at people:) When I was in the Springs, I always wanted to say to the Kahlifooohnia people: "Go back and fix the state you ruined instead of coming here to ruin this one!" Then again, Boulder is the county seat of KOOK county; it's the Berkeley of the Rockies. As a soon-to-move-back-to-the-Springs re-plant, I'm practicing my "native indignation". Hehe:D JH

What are the jacks and switch on the back? From the Fat Sound description, it is: footswitch jack, extension speaker jack, 8 ohm speaker out, tetrode/pentode switch (30/40 watts).

I just read Stu's description of this amp. God help us all. Yes it sounds pretty Awesome! "The new Galaxie is a relatively radical departure for Dr Z Amplifiers on a few levels, but more of the same on a couple levels. This amp features the newly available Triad transformer as used on the original Tweed Super and Pro amplifiers. The Triad used in conjunction with dual GT-6L6GE power tubes and three 12AX7 preamp tubes creates clean tones that are amazingly pristine, shimmery and sweet and very reminiscent of an early tweed design, but with a greater degree of refinement and an extremely tight and focused low end. When pushed hard the clean channel slowly morphs into a more modern sounding pushed clean with the characteristics that today's players have come to expect from modern, boutique designs. In other words, no mush in the low end and a fluid, smooth top end with a hint of growl and wonderfully touch sensitive dynamics. This is the first time I have ever heard truly Fender style cleans from a Dr Z amplifier. In attempting to solve the age old Fender problem of a flabby low end at volume, most amp designers tend to remove some of their amplifiers low mids. This tightens up the amp, but unfortunately also tends to create a more sterile tone without the bubbly percussiveness that is part of what makes the original Fenders so much fun to play and so sweet sounding. The clean channel of the Galaxie has no such compromises. You get all the reedy, sweet, percussiveness and shimmery clean of a Classic Fender *and* a tight, focused low end. The second channel is a major revelation for anyone who has desired a refined and smooth yet properly aggressive British style gain tone from a Dr Z amplifier and have either found his previous offerings not quite gainy enough or a bit too hard/revealing in the upper midrange. The gain channel of the Galaxie offers simply awesome gain tones that sing and sustain for days with the perfect amount of mid content to sit nicely in a mix, a rock-n-roll style aggression in the top end without a trace of harshness or buzz and a low end wallop that you can feel in your chest with every low note played. Overall the gain channel offers the most overdrive ever from a Dr Z. It is tight, focused, singing and smooth with effortless pinch harmonics and a 3-D complexity that is simply amazing. The Galaxie has a single 8 ohm output as dictated by the vintage American style Triad transformer, an external speaker output and a very useable triode/pentode switch which can either be set to triode to emphasize the amp's vintage leanings or to pentode to make the amp slightly tighter, more open and focused. A single button footswitch for changing channels is also included. So what's this about "more of the same"? Well......for starters all of this new Dr Z goodness will be available at a typical Dr Z price which is estimated to be between $1450.00 and $1500.00. The amp has typical Dr Z construction which means it will last for decades with Swiss watch reliability for even the hardest working musicians and, Like all Dr Z amps, it won't require an EE degree to operate. The amps simple interface consists of nothing more than a shared presence, bass and treble control and a single volume control for each channel. I found zero compromises with the shared EQ arrangements. When the clean channel was dialed in for the perfect tone with a given guitar, the gain channel was likewise ideally EQ'd. It was also easy to get the proper volume/gain balance between the two channels. For any player who has wanted an ultimate dual channel amp with sweet Fender 50's clean tones on one channel and modified British gain on the second in an easy to dial in, beautifully built and affordable package........you may have just found amp Nirvana!"
