I don't know how many of you caught this in Doc's posts only thread but he must have had this one on the back burner till Joe Walsh asked for it . BP has got one as well and it should be out in June . Seems the doc must have some things on the go that we don't know about but I guess until he gets the EZG-40 right this is the new kid in the Dr. Z amp lineup . Doc's post about the Galaxie...... So what have I been doing, well I did build a new 6L6 amp called the GALAXIE ( think Ford Galaxie 500 ) . I received a call from Joe Walsh a couple of weeks ago, and he requested a special . He wanted a medium powered ( 30 to 40 watt) 6L6 combo with two channels shared EQ , and a Presence control. Joe went into much detail about the voicing and and Freq response. Also the feet size, grille type ,and speaker used. This hearkened back to my original Triad Transformer Tweed Super inspired design. So I built him one used a Celestion Heritage G-12-65 . Tweaked the two channels to his taste,5U4 rectified added a Pentode/Triode switch and shipped it out. Should be used on his 15 dates with Kenny Chesney, that's right Joe Walsh and Kenny Chesney together on stage, then used on new Eagle CD. I also sent a Galaxie to Brad Paisley and he used it this weekend on his new CD. Brads was tweaked to be a sweet Tele Tweed clean tone on one channel, then foot switchable to a VERY HOT Lead channel. Shared Treble and Bass as well as Presence, 5U4 rectified with a Pentode/Triode switch . Pentode 40 watts Triode 30 watts. This amp has a cathodyne Phase Inverter like the Princeton's and the old Tweed Bandmasters, non symmetrical drive for a rich 3 order harmonic. Original Triad wound on a stick Output Tyrannies, modern features with great Tweed Tone. It will be released as soon as the new chassis come in and production can start , maybe June time frame. Estimated price Head version $1449.00 and 1x12 combo with H-G-12-65 $1699.00. I have a couple built that I will ship around to major dealers as pre-release samples, so some of you may get a change to play the Proto-type and have a word on the final design.

I think he's smart to keep some things closer to the vest - after all, the sound if whining and wailing accompanies virtually every thread that even mentions the Evan amp. I think Mike would be well advised to keep everything secret till it is unveiled.

I just want to know if it is a 40W approximation of the SRZ so I know whether to transfer my fantasy to a less insane Wattage for my needs. But then I remember that the Galaxie 500 with the 650HP 427 was banned by NASCAR...

Read up on this amp anyone who has not seen it posted in Docs thread which I don't know how to transfer here so maybe some computer savvy member will ?? This new one is 30 and 40 watts (switchable ) and is 6L6 powered with a 5U4 rectifier . Sounds pretty cool from his description I had a 1969 Ford Galaxie 500 BTW . I wonder if Steve Carr is gonna get pissed at Doc for using "car" names ;D

You guys have no idea how many beans Doc spills on here, you should feel lucky. ;D

Dr Z mentioned this project to me recently during a conversation. I hope I remember the details correctly. The amp is a footswitchable 6l6 based design. I don't know if it is a true 2 channel amp. Described by Doc as "tweedy" with fairly early breakup and stomp on the switch for "distortion like no other Z" This is the most I can remember and hopefully accurate. Sounded really coll to me and Dr Z was definitely excited about it! ArnieZ

First off ...... lots of folks use car names and the word "Mercury" as in one of Steve Carr's amps is in the news all the time now as in "there is a lot of mercury in California fish". Second .... The Doc was using "car names" before Steve Carr was using them I believe. Third .... The Doc is a cool guy and Steve Carr is a cool guy so I really see no issue here at all.

Just an observation Myles , I wasn't implying the Doc and Steve will come to blows and you are correct , both great guys producing some fantastic amps . Lots of automobile names to choose from and I guess " Rambler " is getting close to "Pinto " although some of the Ramblers were pretty good actually ;D Should get into some odd ones like "Henry J" or "Tucker" ,now there was a cool engineered car and only about 50 made .

I'm getting a sick feeling from this thread. I think something inside finally is telling me to stop the madness! Seriously, for the first time I am feeling a little "nutz" about GAS. FEELIN' A NEED TO Love the Z's I have and learn 'em better before I go salivating for 6L6's. Sorry to be a thread "downer"............just wondering if anyone else gets this way? Feeling like there just isn't enough time to play the "eight guitars and 4 amps" you already got.

Does this mean the EZG 40 may be put on the back burner or replaced with the Galaxie? Or will the Doc relaese two 40 wattish 6L6 amps?
I think every DrZ amp should come with a coupon for peptobismo.... the gas pains are killing me.
On a side note, if I die and go to heaven will I end up in Cleveland Ohio?
