I have wanted to get something posted using the B & G Bender guitar that Forrest Lee Jr. made for me. But it took me a while to get the hang of moving those benders around at the same time! Song is moderately paced so that the bending had time to ring out. No Overdrive pedal used - RX/ES and Voodoo bridge pickup seemed to do the trick.

I just saw this video on facebook, great job! You've really got the technique and tone down. It sounds like a compressor in the chain, which one?

Thanks all for commenting - going to answer a few of the questions asked. TWANGSTA - I gotta get back to you on the Doug 7 thing. I will send you a PM in a day or so. First, Madison - Definitely using compression! As I have not bought a Z-Verb yet and am only using a little Boss pedal for delay, I do use compression to help get sustain. I am using a basic compressor, the Boss CS-3 with the tone and sustain knob turned to about 1:30. Dannydny - the G Bender has a pull lever that pops out of the back of the screw-mounting plate on the guitar. You use a strap attached to the belt loop to activate it. But in my case (because I practice sitting down) I have a strap around my lower chest the I hook the thing to. Standing up I use a belt loop. Take care all of you - I really enjoy the clips you guys put out and always look forward to seeing more. Please always send me an email or message when you put something new on YouTube, sometimes I do not get over here or to the TDPRI soon enough!

I am using a basic compressor, the Boss CS-3 with the tone and sustain knob turned to about 1:30. I thought it sounded like a Boss. I use a Diamond or Keeley, but just ordered a Boss CS3 and Wampler Ego. Love the Diamond, but I'm trying to get closer to that Tele tone you've got using a SFDR. As you can tell I'm a compressor junkie! There is one long run you do beginning at 1:08 that sounds cool with a lot of open notes. I may attempt to figure that one out, although I'd need a 'slowdowner'.

Hey Kevin, really great info and insite on your set up. Would you ever consider showing us how you shoot your vids? Maybe a "behind the scenes" look at your process? I really enjoy your stuff! You have the tone, the chops and it's something new every time.
Twangsta, I have a set of Doug Seven vids and he does a good job of talking about thinking outside the box. I have had them for over a year and have really not taken the time to sit down and learn the licks. They are beyond me. I struggle to think I could attain that level of playing. It would take me forever to learn just one lick. Now some of his other stuff like the "shapes" video is pretty easy stuff. It's just chords and various shapes you can repeat up the fretboard to get some pretty cool chord sounds....I like the content of what there is to learn, it's pretty advanced stuff for the most part. He plays so damn fast! lol. I should have started from the first in his series of lessons, that may have got me on the right track. I need to take some "me" time and learn.

More answers to questions - Madison, I am a compressor junkie too and I am thinking about getting another so I can contrast them. Forrest Lee tells me I might use to much onmy recordings but he says in private he uses way more because he loves the sound of it too! Give me a day and I will post the notes I played on that run. I just tried to write them down and I could not remeber exactly what I did...I'll get it! Mark - just the short version for now on the videos - for the "Burp" vid that I posted 6 months ago, I shot that myself with two cameras and did the editing work on a Mac using iMovie. Under Advanced Features (after enabling such in the Preferences box) you can actually do "movie-in-movie" - that is how I dropped the picking hand into the vid. For the video above, I was already in a video studio doing some commercial work and we decided to experiment with a multiple camera shoot set at a number of different angles. More complex editing job so that was done by the editor in the "Big" Studio with Final Cut Pro on a Mac tower. Next time I do a vid I will do a pre-shoot of the set-up. Bad Poodle - Doug Seven demystified the style for me. I just started working on Chicken Picking about 10 months ago and at first it was really tough. But I found that after month 4, all the stuff began to make sense to me. You cannot go wrong by ordering from Doug.

Kevin and Mark, thanks for the info on Doug Seven, I think I'll get the whole lot for the full experience, I've never heard of anybody chicken pickin on this continent! ( besides the little I picked up from the Sol Philcox vids ) Dang it! This vid is tempting me to get a double bender put in my new guitar, I'll never do it once it's here.

Twangsta and Bad Poodle - OK, Doug sent me what I was missing so I could do a review....my suggestion is to start with "Playing in Circles." Rather than it just being random licks, you get full progressions through the I-IV-V and some great finger bends. Then I would get Series 2 & 4 - and then, to bring your playing into the Modern Country Age - the "Habitual Techniques" DVD is amazing. It goes deep into what B. Paisley does to go past the traditional licks sounds.

Responding to a PM but in case others are interested - Forrest Lee Jr. has the only G bender video out that I have been able to find. It is available at his site and on EBay - nobody has put out an instructional DVD on using a B & G Bender. The user base is far to small to make the project profitable. I might start working on one just so that one exists. I bet I could make enough money on the project to buy a dinner or two at an Outback restaurant.
