I am wondering if any of you Junior owners have swapped out the Rec tube for something else, like a NOS or something? Please tell me what you are using. Thanks, [glow=limegreen,2,300]-J-[/glow]

I picked up a NOS Bendix 6106/5Y3WGT from Mike at KCA a few months back and as much as I'd love to say I heard a world of difference I really didn't. I think the Doc loads good ones in there to go. But on the up side now I have a back up rectifier just in case.

The stock one is an NOS 5y3, but I have swapped mine for an ancient Silvertone and it actually sounds a bit tighter.

Yeah, Doc put NOS rectifiers in there so I haven't really messed with swapping. I need a back up though.

I took a few hours when I first got my RxJr swapping tubes. I ended up with the original tubes that it came with. As somebody already said, Z-Amps had nice rectifiers and ef86s in them before they left the factory.

I don't think it would be safe for any length of time. It'd prolly cook the power tube alot faster. Edit: Make that a 5v4 not 5u4......

All NOS 5Y3's are good...and luckily they're more readily available than the 5AR4's.
I haven't bench tested my RxJr but I'll bet that the EL84's are already being pushed pretty hard with a 5Y3 as it is... I don't think I'd use a SS or 5AR4 recto. I could be wrong though; like I said I haven't done any testing or asked the Doc this question. I'm too busy playing this tonal beast!
