I though about getting the mod done when the Doc rolled it out earlier this year but the combination of my laziness and having to pack up my amp to ship back to Ohio got the best of me.
I've read most posts from the forum members who have had it done and I've noticed a common theme of it not being what they expected?
What I'm trying to find out is it really practical? One thing I like about the Maz Jr is the way it reacts with pedals. If I need extra boost I have an assortment of pedals to dial in what I'm looking for. With humbuckers and an Zen Drive I'm sure I can get pretty close to what the Mod offers (maybe not)?
I'd really like to here if you had it done and are you using it exclusively now or do you find yourself using the Maz the way it was set up pre-mod? Obviously I'm not looking to knock the Docs work here or trying to be controversial. The Mod is what it is. I get that part, I'm just not sold on what I've read about it so far.

I use and like the mod, but it is not my "default" mode.
I believe the key to whether or not one likes it is related to how one typically sets the MAZ controls. For some settings, such as dimed Volume, the sound of the bypass may not please your ears -- see comments from Pete (shouldb) in his farewell thread.
My suggestion has been to set the amp's volume, master and cut with the bypass engaged. Then turn bypass off and use the tonestack to engineer the sound for non-bypass mode. Of course, you may end up with a compromise in that tone compared with your "old" settings, i.e., those you used before getting the mod.
Bottom line for me is that I like having the extra tones and gain available. Important note: I was sending the amp in for service and figured I might as well have the mod installed.
Let me know if you want to venture up to Westchester. You can try mine out.

What doctorice said. I did the same thing--my MAZ needed a bit of a tuneup, so two birds, etc. Well worth the $150 in that case-it's basically another color on the palette. I'm still figuring out what to do with it, but doctorice's suggestions for setting up the amp for optimal TSM use are spot-on.

Thanks Mike - That's my concern. If you use the Mod regularly then you have to re-adjust the whole EQ to get it more in line with the bypass when it's not engaged. The one thing I like about the Maz is the way you can play with the EQ and MV/V to dial in specific tones. You are definitely compromising the EQ with the Mod. It's all subjective.
Does anyone else with the Mod wish to chime in?

I got the TSM after Z-Fest. The MAZ gets a ton of use at the recording studio I own. I'm not using the TSM as a boost or quasi channel switch on a live gig. Most of the time I try to get sounds straight in first. The way I use it the TSM gives me another option with the MAZ. For some things it is perfect. I'm really pleased with the mod.
