Been giving more play-time to my Galaxie of late .... has the MV-mod and I'm playing my SC245 and using an older Z 210 cab.
Generally staying on channel 1 .... with the occasional step over to channel 2.
No effects.
So tell me, I've been playing in pentode 99.9 % of the time ..... and on the rare occasion I've used triode I don't seem to notice much change - perhaps a touch more treble/sparkle and maybe a slight variation in response ....... is this normal?
Thoughts/input appreciated ..... otherwise, I aint seen much action in the Galaxie section ...... y'all must be playin' lots ;D
cheers always, eh

I, like you, keep mine in Pentode alMOST exclusively, with the occasional trip into Triodesville. Usually, when I'm looking for a different sound on a project, & want to keep the panel settings the same, so I can come back for punch-ins.
What you described, is exactly how I hear the switch.... A touch less bass, more sparkle, and just a little less volume. As for the "touch" thing.....seems to me, that when in triode, I have to dig in a little harder on ch1 to get the "squishy" tweed goodness.
But....that DOES make sense, after all. Glad to hear you're keepin' those 6L6's fired up....

Much appreciated. ;D Will be using this set-up in the coming week for a lil' Christmas action .... 'small' choir, with keys, bass, acoustic guitar and me with the SC245 and Galaxie w/ Z 210 .... anticipated audience of approx 100. Field report to follow cheers always, eh Joel

I agree with you guys. I rarely used triode because the pentrode setting has a larger 'thud' factor using open back cabs. Glad to hear your enjoying the Gal Joel. Happy Holidays to You and T.

I just picked up djc's Galaxie and should have it Friday. Very intrigued by this amp and can't wait to try it. I'm sure I will like the one with the most bang, I always like the louder one.
wish me luck on the quest rp

I run mine mostly in triode. I like the extra sparkle. I mainly use channel one. I think it sags a little more in triode which I like. I have #30. It's a great gigging amp. I would like the Maz 8 studio cab. Just some thing a little smaller.

... well, I played at the annual Christmas concert work today - alongside bass, keys and a choir of 30 singers * ES-339 thru Galaxie into Z 210 cab .... channel 1 ..... no effects * Volume @ 11:00; Bass @ 11:00 and Treble @ 12:00 - un-mic'd * Large room - approx 120 people in attendance Lotsa fun .... even tho' I mangled a solo in the middle of Jingle Bell Rock .... and played a lil' louder than normal on Feliz Navidad and Here Comes Santa Claus ;D So to answer my original question about the pentode/triode? In a different room with different settings and different crowd size, I'd be inclined to give the triode side some playtime I guess I really do like runnin' on the pentode setting cheers always, Joel btw, a coupla people wanted to know why I didn't play that lil' Z amp a bit louder

I can't believe how subtle the difference is, I was expecting more contrast like with the 5 watt single ended amps.
I'm gonna have to go pentode for the higher wattage. So far really digging the sounds of this amp, might need a little more clean volume so I might mess with V1 and the PI.
Not sure where I heard this, maybe the Z DVD but the gal has a cathodyne PI which only uses half of the dual triode/12ax7 unlike a long tailed pair. So if you use a lower gain PI it will also effect another gain stage.
I'm gonna take it to church tomorrow night for the Christmas eve service. Very happy so far with both channels, I see how the master would come in very handy.

Back to my original post .... Been playing my SC245 and ES339 thru the Galaxie and using both the 112 and 210 cabs with triode. Been changing the volume and control settings both on the amp and guitars. Straight-in. No effects. While I dig the pentode and getting the extra thud as Drew described, there is some sweeetness for sure on the triode setting. Apparently it aint just me who's noticed it. my wife recently asked if I had bought a new guitar and/or amp - so I asked, what do you mean? she said the sounds seemed clearer and the songs I was playing were gettin' really good. So, I gotta say that the Galaxie continues to show that it's as T-Rock has said "it's like an instrument that you learn to play ....." cheers always, Joel
