The FDM idea is interesting but how do they sound?

My impressions right now... When I first tried the Reignmaker, I didn't like it much. Even with the attenuation off. It's getting better with time. Of course it sounds best wide open, and I can be happy with it in spots between 1/2 and 3/4, but I need more time with it.

What I want to know is, how do they compare to attenuation (like an Airbrake)? Like, 75% speaker vs Airbrake at 2 clicks. That kind of comparison.

I didn't measure it with a meter, but it does like they say. You can turn it up and you can turn it down. It's not clicks like a BL or AB. It does work like an attenuator. For me the more usable tones were from halfway to wide open... much how I like the Brake Lite.
I'm going to sell mine because I have 6 Brake Lites and an Airbrake. Hasn't been properly broken in yet. As far as size goes it takes more room in the back than a typical ceramic magnet but a little less than an AlNiCo.
I would keep it if I didn't have two Brake Lites waiting to be installed.

Sorry, what I meant was how does the TONE compare to using an attenuator? Is it better/worse/same?

According to the profile, it maintains a constant curve, but like an attenuator, when you attenuate heavily you need to compensate... so I'd say it's similar if not the same as using an attenuator without the extra wiring and box.

I'm very intriqued. I'd love to get rid of the "extra box & wires"... there are only 2 models of the FDMs so far, Eminence is probably waiting for market response before sinking money into other models... like the Cannibus Rex FDM, the Red Fang FDM, etc.
I really wish Eminence would get their site back together... the new one is very hard to compare speaker tones, and some speakers don't even have soundclips. The old soundclip comparison page they used to have up, where you could instantly compare any of their speakers, was awesome.

To me attenuators tend to "grab" boost pedals and the like, almost like brick wall limiters.
Does this thing let peaks come through?
