This clip tries to present some of the differences in the basic sonic characters of these two amps. It is not a demo in the usual sense. For the first part of the clip I tried to have the amps set up to produce roughly the same volume, and I matched the frequency responses as best I could by ear. I have additional comments over in this thread: ztalk.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=m12&action=display&thread=50061Apologies for the dim lighting. My basement music room is tiny and not well lit obviously. (Not helped by YouTube compression either.)

to my ear, the M12 sounds a bit warmer and with less mid range...both nice in their own right, but if I had to pick, it would be M12 all day long...Nice comparison Mike! Thanks!

The M12 definitely had less mids than the 28, which I would expect from a pedal platform. It did have more clarity too when ran at the same settings.

Another useful comparison / point of reference is to run both at 3-3-3. I'll try to add another clip with that and maybe some other settings to further illustrate the differences.

Thanks Mike, what a great comparison!! I'm surprised by how very different the two sound, but I shouldn't be really. You're using a Red Fang in your Z28, isn't that right? It's much darker and middy with the Z28 than my Weber, but sounds GREAT with the M12. Now of course, what I need to hear is the M12 vs Ghia as I could definitely hear that Ghia clarity and brightness in the M12!! At your convenience my good man! ;D

Dr. Z: thank you. The amp is another winner. Lee: combo with Greenback headed your way? Pete: I think I'll do a second round of M-12 and Z-28 comparison. CG would be interesting too. (But should I do that before the Z-28 65 Amps Ventura comparison? )

Lee: combo with Greenback headed your way? Exactly! I've never owned a greenie except in the old 4 x 12 Marshalls, so I was a bit hesitant... read the speaker posts here, and chatted with Josh (great guy) at Humbucker.....after a lot of consideration and discussion, I decided to go with the Doc's ears and the stock greenie speaker. He's ALWAYS been correct before, why should I question this?

Cool!! Thanks so much Mike. Very nice comparison. Both sound great. You can really hear the EL84's shining through in the M12 and the extra thickness of the 6V6's in the Z28.
I have EL84's in my Z Wreck and Maz Jr........6V6's in my Remedy.....
Thanks to you, I'll probably be ordering my Z28 this week!
;D

OK, Pete. It may have to wait until after the upcoming batch of rehearsals and gigs, though.
